Forks Over Knives

What has happened to us? Despite the most advanced medical technology in the world, we are sicker than ever by nearly every measure. Two out of every three of us are overweight. Cases of diabetes are exploding, especially amongst our younger population. Heart disease, cancer and stroke are the country's three leading causes of death, even though billions are spent each year to "battle" these very conditions. Millions suffer from a host of other degenerative diseases.

Could it be there's a single solution to all of these problems? A solution so comprehensive but so utterly straightforward, that it's mind-boggling that more of us haven't taken it seriously?

FORKS OVER KNIVES examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the so-called "diseases of affluence" that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods.

Food Inc

In Food, Inc., filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on America's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA.

The nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. There's bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad, but there's also new strains of E. coli the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually.

America is riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.

That Sugar Film

Australian actor and film-maker Damon Gameau presents this documentary about sugar and its impact on our bodies.

In order to discover the effects of the sweet substance Damon goes on a high sugar diet for 60 days.

By only eating foods that are generally considered to be healthy he exposes the truth about what these products actually contain and whether they are really good for us, as we have been led to believe.

The film features appearances from Stephen Fry, Isabel Lucas and Brenton Thwaites and includes interviews with experts Gary Taubes, Michael Moss and Kimber Stanhope.

Supersize Me, by M. Spurlock

Morgan Spurlock's award-winning documentary poses a simple question:

Why is America so fat?

Spurlock sets out to interview experts in 20 US cities, including Houston, the 'fattest city in America', while at the same time conducting his own experiment: to eat nothing but McDonalds for 30 days straight.

The results shocked even the doctors who were monitoring him - not to mention his vegan chef girlfriend, Alexandra.
